Labours Of Love Heirloom Sewing Supplies
We love Schmetz Sewing Machine Needles.
Debra Justice's book Modern Machine Techniques shows you how to use the Twin, Wing, Double Wing and Triple Needles!
Schmetz Double Eye Needle (Item #DEN)
One needle with two eyes. You thread your machine for twin needles using two spools of thread, but when you thread the needle, there are two eyes. So one thread goes in the top eye, the other in the bottom eye. Go through the stitches you have on your machine to see the effect you will get! Perfect for "bulking" up your topstitiching without compromising and threading two threads through the same hold. Size 80/12, 5 per card.
Schmetz Universal Point Machine Needles, my Mom always told me to use the best! (Item #UPN)
I use Schmetz needles because they are an excellent quality. These fit all machines. I use the 60/8 for any fine sewing. Size 60/8, 10 per card.
Schmetz Microtex (Sharp) Point Machine Needles (Item #MSN2)
These needles are one step up from the Universale Point 60/8. They are super sharp and perfect for any fine sewing. Use on microfibres, polyester, silk, fine fabrics, foils, artificial leather and coated materials. Very thin acute point creates beautiful topstitching and perfectly straight stitches for quilt piecing when precision is paramount. These are the ones I use with the Madeira Thread to roll the edges of silk and chiffon scarfs. Size 60/8, 5 per card.
Schmetz Microtex (Sharp) Point Machine Needles - Variety Pack (Item #MSN3)
These needles are one step up from the Universale Point needles. They are super sharp and perfect for any fine sewing. Use on microfibres, polyester, silk, fine fabrics, foils, artificial leather and coated materials. Very thin acute point creates beautiful topstitching and perfectly straight stitches for quilt piecing when precision is paramount. 2 -60/8, 2 - 70/10 and 1 80/12 per card.
Twin Needles (Item # TN)
Used to make perfect pintucks or to turn simple decorative stitches into designer details. It just isn't heirloom without pintucks to give it "that" look. Use the 1.6/70 to make curved and pointed pintucks without any puckers, especially beautiful on children's wear. I like the 2.5/80 for my nighties, lingerie and blouses. (Specify 1.6/70 or 2.5/80) 1 per card.
Triple Needle (Item # TTN)
Yes, a triple needle and they're lots of fun. Use for tucks and all types of wonderful top and decorative stitching. Your top stitching will never be uneven again and don't tell, just smile and say thanks. Size 3.0/80, 1 per card.
Stretch Twin Needle (Item # STN)
Two stretch needles mounted on one shank to create two rows of stitching simultaneously. Use on elastic materials and highly elastic knitwear. This is the one Debra uses to hem anything that is a knit. From t-shirts to yoga pants this is the one. Size 4.0/75, 1 per card.
Single Wing Needle (Item # WN)
These needles have "wings" which create holes in the fabric that resemble entredeux or hand done hem stitching. Use a zig-zag or simple decorative stitch with the single wing needle. Phillip Pepper's book "Peppering" is an excellent resource for using this and the double wing needle to their fullest. Size 120/19, 1 per card.
Double Wing Needle (Item # DWN)
These needles have "wings" which create holes in the fabric that resemble entredeux or hand done hem stitching. Use a straight stitch with the double wing needle . Debra's new Book Modern Machine Techniques is an excellent resource for using this and the single wing needle to their fullest.
Embroidery Gold Needle (Item # DWN)
Light ball point for embroidery on most fabrics. We recommed this needle any time the pedal is to the medal. Use for machine embroidery, stippling and machine applique - anytime that needle is going to heat up. An enlarged eye accommodates special application threads. Titanium Nitride ceramic coating improves needle wear and resistance. Prevents shreading from heat. Size 75/11, 5 per card.
Leather Needles, the perfect choice when working on real furs. (Item # SLN2)
For use on leather, artificial leather, real furs, and heavy non-woven synthetic. Has a cutting point. Do not use on knit or woven fabrics. Size 110/18, 5 per card.
